About Our Dyers

I thought it would be nice to learn a little bit about each dyer we stock:

Lily & Pine

"Erin started Lily & Pine Fibre Arts out of her kitchen in Calgary, Alberta in 2017. When she couldn’t find the exact colour she was looking for in a spinning project, she began scouring the internet for classes and instructions on dying fibre, purchasing the raw materials anywhere she could track them down. Soon her experiments with dyes and fibre took over their main floor!

When an injury forced her to quit her day job, her loving husband, Brad, encouraged her to consider turning her little passion project into a full time business. After much trepidation at the thought of starting a business, he finally convinced her to pursue her passion. Their basement was turned into a full dye studio, and Lily & Pine Fibre Arts was born!
With the help of Brad on the technical and financial side, as well as a sometimes “Booth Babe” at trade shows, Erin now dyes full time in her garage studio, focusing on creating unique and complex colours for spinning fibre and yarn. She is passionate about creating colours ways that will hopefully inspire other makers, so that they too can craft projects that will be unique and meaningful for them!"

Knitting After Midnight

Knitting After Midnight was launched in 2021 after Melissa, its owner and indie dyer, decided to meld her love of Goth aesthetic and Metal music with her passion for the fiber arts. Most of the colorways she comes up with are inspired by these Gothic themes and brutal tunes. The results are deep, often moody and exciting color combinations to help you create the project of your dreams... or nightmares.

Breaking Yarn

Breaking Yarn is a small hand-dyed yarn company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the colorways are inspired by Breaking Bad! There are colorways based on characters (Walter White and Jesse Pinkman), Companies in the show (Gray Matter and Vamonos Pest Control), and props or themes (Pink Teddy Bear. Hazmat Suit and Crystal Meth).

Some colorways are broken colors - where colors break apart in the dyepot and become multiple colors because they exhaust at different rates!

Michaeli, the dyer behind Breaking Yarn, is a fiber enthusiast with a real passion for creating! She is a knitter and a crocheter, but knitting is more of her passion. She also recently started designing patterns which are available on BreakingYarn.com or Ravelry!

Michaeli started dyeing yarn with some fiber friends in 2018 at a yarn dyeing party! This was her first experience with dyeing yarn with Kool-Aid and she was immediately hooked! She spent her birthday money on some dyes and bare wool and started selling them on Etsy before starting her own website store BreakingYarn.com.

Getting to see what the yarn turns into that she dyed brings this whole passion project full circle! Please share your projects on Instagram with the hashtag #BreakingYarn and tag her in your projects so she can see  what you create with her yarn!
